Phane
From ancien grec φαίνειν,
faynein (« apparaître »).
Phane Tribot la Spière develops a practice at the intersection of object design and sculpture.
Drawing on forms and symbols borrowed from the natural world, clothing and the history of decorative arts, she transforms familiar typologies; furniture, lighting, vessels and objects of use through shifts in scale, material and form.
Her work explores the tension between function and representation. A leaf becomes a structure, a pocket becomes a vessel, a fold becomes a construction principle. While retaining traces of their original function, these familiar forms become sculptural objects carrying new narratives.
Primarily working with ceramics, often combined with wood, metal, resin or silver leaf, she creates unique pieces and limited editions in which material experimentation and craftsmanship are central to the design process.
